2-Day-Training: A Neuro-Affirming Therapeutic Massage Programme

The Pause Method™

The Pause Method™ is a specialist massage programme created to support neurodivergent adults and guests whose sensory needs may not be met by traditional spa and massage treatments.

Developed by Amy Winter of Little Kneaders, The Pause Method™ is rooted in ancient healing techniques from traditional Chinese medicine, reimagined through modern nervous-system awareness and Amy’s specialist understanding of the neurodivergent mind and body.

A meeting of time-honoured therapeutic touch and contemporary neuro-affirming care.

Rather than following a fixed massage sequence, therapists learn to respond to the person in front of them – adapting touch, pressure, pace and sensory input to create an experience that feels considered, comfortable and deeply restorative.

Who is The Pause Method™ for?

The Pause Method™ was created with the understanding that no two nervous systems experience the world – or therapeutic touch – in quite the same way.

While developed primarily to support neurodivergent adults, its responsive approach may also be valuable for those who experience heightened sensory sensitivity or simply find conventional massage difficult to fully relax into.

Neurodivergence can also sit alongside a wider range of physical and sensory experiences. A guest may live with hypermobility, anxiety, digestive discomfort, differences in body awareness, sensitivity to temperature, heightened or reduced sensitivity to touch, muscle tension or difficulty recognising and communicating what their body needs in the moment.

For some, the traditional spa experience can therefore feel overwhelming rather than restorative – from lighting and sound to scent, temperature, conversation, pressure and unexpected touch.

The Pause Method™ creates space for a different experience.

Rather than expecting the guest to adapt to a predetermined treatment, the treatment adapts to them. Touch, pressure, pace, communication and sensory input can be considered around the individual and how they are feeling on that particular day. This responsive, consent-led approach is already central to The Pause Method™.

It is not about treating a diagnosis. It is about understanding the person behind it – and giving therapists the knowledge and confidence to deliver care that feels considered, comfortable and genuinely individual.
